Join Rachel Mulder for this exciting 2-day workshop! No experience necessary. This class is especially supportive for people who wish to challenge their perfectionism and/or shake themselves loose from creative stagnancy.
During this two session workshop series, Rachel Mulder will invite you to explore the endless possibilities of cyanotype through the lens of her drawing and printmaking background. This transformative medium will use UV lamps and chemically treated paper that becomes mysterious blue and white imagery when rinsed in water. This is a process-based and fast moving (but friendly and approachable!) medium, and participants will get to make many works on paper! (~10-15 pieces).
Part one will explore the basics of this fascinating photo-adjacent process using Rachel’s chaotic assortment of treasures (and you are also welcome to bring your own trinkets to experiment with!). Rachel will offer open-ended exercises and new techniques shared throughout the evening. Part two will show additional mediums to incorporate within your existing cyanotypes and new techniques to create new ones. We will conclude with a brief moment to share our work and reflect on the process and results.
High-quality (N95/KF94) masks are required and provided for this class. Please do not attend class if you are unwell.
About the instructor: Rachel Mulder lives in Portland, Oregon, with her two cats, Opal and Tomasina. She was born in rural Wisconsin and when she was small she spent a lot of time sitting in the grass staring, obsessing about animals, watching cartoons and peeling her skin off. Now she makes drawings using a variety of media that often yield printmakerly textures – residual effects from earning her BFA in Printmaking at Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in 2007. Encouraging others (and herself) to create/exist sincerely is a parallel passion of hers that braids itself into her visual work. https://rchlmldr.com/
