Instructor: Mary Del Savio & Aaron Rapport

Dates: Monday, November 16th

Time: 5:45pm - 8:30pm

Location: Ulna Art Studio, 215 SE Morrison St

Explore two fundamental approaches to portrait drawing: tonal and structural. Through short, focused exercises, students will learn how to use value and simplified shapes to communicate three-dimensional form, while also developing an understanding of facial anatomy, proportion and perspective. The class emphasizes seeing and simplifying rather than relying on detail, giving students practical tools for creating more accurate and convincing portraits.

About the instructors:

Mary Del Savio is a native Oregonian and an Ulna community member. She works in both traditional and digital media, exploring a range of styles from academic realism to contemporary illustration. With a background in language teaching, Mary brings patience, clarity and structure to her Procreate classes – making digital art accessible for all skill levels.

Aaron Rapport attempted to rebel against his lineage by rejecting visual art for many years until succumbing to the call over a year ago. Since then, they have committed to studying portraiture and surrealist expression. They were raised by a small, Jewish community in Redding, California and now enjoys creating art alongside other artists in Portland, Oregon. His art plays with light and plays on experiences with psychosis, grief, and relationships.
