This morning offering is for returning Ulna students who wish to continue their creative journey in a supportive, relaxed studio environment. Independent Study provides space and time to pursue your personal projects, explore new ideas, and develop your own artistic voice—alongside peers who share your dedication to art.
Work at your own pace in our familiar, well-equipped studio, surrounded by a small community of fellow artists. While there is no formal instruction, the space is rich with encouragement, and the motivation that comes from making art together.
Bring your own materials and projects—whether continuing a long-term series or diving into something entirely new.
Note: This offering is open exclusively to returning Ulna students. Non-instructed.
About the facilitator: I have spent a lifetime practicing self-reflection and meditation, but I didn’t pick up a drawing tool or paintbrush until I was in my early 50s, and once I did, I found I could not stop. Making marks, mixing colors, creating huge frustrating messes and then finding my way out of them has been nothing short of transformational for me. I work in acrylics, oil, watercolors, charcoal, pencil, collage, paper-mache- you name it, and I will find a way to use it. I’ve had the honor of participating in Ulna Community Art Shows as well as having solo shows at coffee shops in Portland. You can find examples of my paintings on Instagram @marysays_what
