Join us at Ulna Studio for this class with Aaron Rapport.
This is a beginner friendly course that is for artists of any level who mask and are interested in portraiture. The class will focus on creative expression with some technical advice woven in. While the face may be covered, masking is a type of expression that any artist may use to convey their intended visual message. This is an opportunity for masking to be not only normalized, but celebrated. Whether you’ve been masking for years, or just started masking, please come connect with your masked community members!
The class will start with blind contour portraits of each other, followed by a little social break to study an asaro head model. Class will continue with more focused time composing self portraits.
Materials are open to anything a student would like to bring. Aaron will demo in pastel and Ulna can provide paper, pastels, and charcoal for use.
High quality (N95/KF94) masks are required and provided for this class. Please do not attend class if you are unwell.
About the instructor: Aaron Rapport attempted to rebel against his lineage by rejecting visual art for many years until succumbing to the call over a year ago. Since then, they have committed to studying portraiture and surrealist expression. They were raised by a small, Jewish community in Redding, California and now enjoys creating art alongside other artists in Portland, Oregon. His art plays with light and plays on experiences with psychosis, grief, and relationships.
About our classroom space: Ulna studio is a creative space located on the 2nd floor of the Portland Storage Building on SE Morrison st. There is NOT always elevator access for arrival/departure to your in-person class. Students always have the option of coming and leaving via a staircase.
