Reflection and Self-Portrait: A Process Art Workshop (Nov 1st) Sunday afternoon
Instructor: Mary Sepulveda
Dates: Sunday, November 1st
Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Class size: 6 students
Where: Ulna Art Studio, 215 SE Morrison
Reflection and Self-Portrait: A Process Art Workshop
This all-levels class is for folks interested in self-reflection and inquiry as they inform the art-making process. You will have the opportunity to use pencil, pen, charcoal, oil pastels, paint, and collage materials to create a deeply layered self-portrait. I will share strategies for quieting your inner critic and for accessing a sense of freedom in your mark-making.
Expect to get messy, do some deep listening, laugh, and question your view of what constitutes a “good” portrait. I will have some supplies to share, but I recommend bringing 3-4 sheets of 14”x17” mixed media paper (I will have extra to share) and a few collage materials that are meaningful to you. I will provide drawing tools (charcoal, pens, pencils, oil pastels), paints, and glue sticks. Contact me at sepulvedamaryt@gmail.com
Mary Sepulveda Bio: I have spent a lifetime practicing self-reflection and meditation, but I didn’t pick up a drawing tool or paintbrush until my early 50s; once I did, I couldn't stop. Making marks, mixing colors, creating huge frustrating messes, and then finding my way out of them has been nothing short of transformational for me. I work in acrylics, oil, watercolors, charcoal, pencil, collage, paper mache- you name it, and I will find a way to use it. I’ve had the honor of participating in Ulna Community Art Shows as well as having solo shows at coffee shops in Portland and a recent show at Radiant Community Arts in Eugene. You can find examples of my paintings on Instagram @marysays_what
About the classroom space: Ulna Studio is a creative space on the 2nd floor of the Portland Storage Building on SE Morrison St. Contact the instructor for the door code. Please note there is a flight of stairs between street level and our second-floor studio. sepulvedamaryt@gmail.com
