Why We Make Art: A Sketchbook Journey 2027
In this class students will learn tips and techniques to create a rewarding, healthy, and sustainable art practice rooted in sketchbook habits. We will re-discover the joy of keeping a sketchbook, how to explore a personal color palette, how to listen to your unique artist voice, and why curiosity is more motivating than shame. We will also spend some time working with the medium “gouache”. This course welcomes all skill levels and those who seek creative community as well as personal attention from an instructor.
About the Instructor: Allie Yacina moved from Philadelphia in 2016 to pursue a creative career in Portland. She is a multi-media, award-winning illustrator, artist, and graphic designer. Her work is rooted in observation focused in landscapes, environments, and exploring subtle narratives. She utilizes an expressive color palette and prefers to work traditionally in gouache. About our classroom space: Ulna studio is a creative space located on the 2nd floor of the Portland Storage Building on SE Morrison St. Students have to be comfortable walking up and down one flight of stairs. Masks will be optional, and we ask that you do not come to class if you are feeling sick.
